About

A couple of years ago, View Magazine called our series, Diversity: Creating Success for Business and People "one of the best products about diversity on the market." And customers agreed!

Now, we can offer you a follow-up series from the same company, ARMC. Building a Diverse Workforce for the Global Millennium is a 20-volume series that covers a huge variety of diversity issues.

Each program presents a dramatic interaction between two people. With well-written scripts, the programs are beautifully produced and designed to encourage group discussion around a variety of diversity and organizational issues that take place in both domestic and global settings.

Each program also presents critical business concepts like building trust and respect, performance appraisals, team building and leadership.

COMPLIMENTARY REVIEW (From Training Media Review)

If your organization can swing the money for Building a Diverse Workforce, go for it! Even if you have to pick and choose, it is still worthwhile to go with half a dozen titles. The quality is good and it can be used as part of a larger diversity program.

Each program is available for purchase/rent individually and comes with a comprehensive facilitator’s guide. Click on any title below for individual pricing or to preview the program.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS:

Program 1 - Do We Speak the Same Language? 12:11 Minutes

In this scenario, you will see how a manager misunderstands an employee’s language and cultural differences, which ultimately leads to a less than stellar performance evaluation.

Program 2 - Double Standards In Performance Appraisals 15:16 Minutes

How do you balance work, family, travel and organizational expectations? What do you do if your manager has unrealistic expectations while giving lip service to your family commitments? In this scenario, you’ll explore all of these issues in a US/global contest and see how this can impact one’s performance appraisals.

Program 3 - Why Can’t We Attract and Keep People of Color? 10:23 Minutes

Many times diversity issues and conflicts are presented as Black versus White. In this vignette however, you’ll look at the extreme differences in perceptions between two internationally born Americans about the "difficulties" in recruiting and retaining people of color. You’ll explore differences in style, perceptions of racism and sexism.

Program 4 - Will My Mentor Make A Difference? 10:25 Minutes

The lack of effective mentoring can be a factor in the low retention rate of people of color. In this scenario, you’ll watch a mentoring session with a white male senior executive and a Hispanic woman. The segment illustrates the pitfalls of subtle racism and sexism, and also provides a valuable setting for discussing mentoring skills.

Program 5 - Is It the Cement Ceiling or Is It Me? 10:52 Minutes

While many white men believe that their careers are held up because of unfair advantages given to people of color, many women and people of color believe that their chances are limited because white men are still the advantaged group. This scenario shows how a black non-exempt person who went to school at night believes his career is blocked because of covert racism. While it is not clear that racism is the block, it is clear that a lack of career planning and a breakdown in communication can lead to perceptions of unfair treatment.

Program 6 - What About Me? 8:04 Minutes

As organizations have built diverse global workforces, some employees perceive an environment of reverse discrimination. How do you cope with white male resentment over the hiring and promotion of a woman or a minority? This scenario explores this very complex issue. How do organizations make white males feel they are not discriminated against and still have a strong viable diversity strategy that capitalizes on diverse employees, customers and stakeholders?

Program 7 - I Deserved It Didn’t I? 8:48 Minutes

This program looks at the same issues as Program 6, but is set in a management environment.

Program 8 - Disbanding The ’Good Old Boy Network 12:14 Minutes

Many times, new employees, especially those who are different, are not properly introduced and mentored into the organization. In this scenario, your audience will be able to explore the conflicts and potential implications for organizations that fail to have an inclusive, holistic process for mentoring and introductions.

Program 9 - Old School vs. New School 11:08 Minutes

Often people fail to recognize that old and new approaches can cause tension and impact the degree of trust and respect in a team. This program will allow your viewers to discuss these forces and come up with ideas for achieving balance between these two different approaches in a way that will benefit the organization.

Program 10 - But We’ve Always Done It That Way! 12:13 Minutes

This program looks at the same issues as Program 9, but is set in a management environment.

Program 11 - The Fatal Interview 13:12 Minutes

Many organizations say, "We would like to have more women and people of color, but we just can’t find them." The reality can be different. In this segment, you’ll see how shortcomings in the interviewing process can impact the recruitment of diverse employees.

Program 12 - The Balancing Act 11:16 Minutes

Balancing work and family is an issue more women have to cope with than men, and these issues can have a negative impact on women’s careers. This program will generate great discussion on gender issues and how to balance career and family.

Program 13 - Worlds Apart 12:47 Minutes

Different cultures have different approaches to problem solving and project management. In the global economy, it is increasingly important for every team member to be aware of these differences as they move forward on projects. In this scenario, you will explore the differences in values and the importance of work and life between a Japanese employee and a Latin employee.

Program 14 - Making A Good Impression 10:42 Minutes

As organizations become more global, the challenges of hiring employees can be magnified by cultural and national differences in approach and perception. In particular, this scenario revolves around an older Chinese male interviewing a younger East Indian Asian woman for a job in a United States plant in Singapore.

Program 15 - It’s All in the Presentation 8:38 Minutes

Does your organization use different standards in evaluating male and female employees? This scenario explores the issues around a presentation given by a woman and by a man. The manager praises the man; the woman is coached for not giving a good presentation. Is it about differences in the presentation? The issue of race could be an additional factor as the woman is Latina.

Program 16 - You Don’t Fit My Style 14:18 Minutes

In this scenario, you’ll see how an Asian woman from China and her white male direct report discuss issues such as different styles and approaches to customers. The importance of getting the job done vs. being a team player is discussed. The interview also raises questions about what are the appropriate and inappropriate discussions to have with Chinese customers.

Program 17 - You’re Making Me Uncomfortable 9:28 Minutes

You are a female executive traveling to South America. You’re meeting with an Argentinean executive who works for your organization. This program explores issues of how you can tell the difference between possible sexual harassment and or cultural difference. Learn how to build trust and respect across different cultures.

Program 18 - Sexual Harassment? Are You Serious? 11:17 Minutes

This scenario explores the issue of sexual harassment in the plant floor and in the office. You will be able to use this program as a springboard to review your organization’s policy on sexual harassment and discuss the many misconceptions that exist about sexual harassment.

Program 19 - The Skip-Level Meeting 9:44 Minutes

Your organization believes in open and honest communication and has an organization-wide open door policy. So how do you cope with managers who want to control the information that their superiors get from subordinates? What do you do when your managers are afraid of the open door policy? This scenario captures a conversation between a woman and her supervisor, and his attempt to "constructively coach" her for a successful meeting with his supervisor.

Program 20 - Building Teams in the Global Marketplace 10:35 Minutes

When teams are comprised of people from different cultures, the opportunity for misunderstanding arises. This scenario shows how different approaches between French, British, American and German cultures can cause communication problems. You will see how communication can break down among a cross-cultural team.
