Tom Peters"In no small part, what American corporations have become is what Peters has encouraged them to be." -- The New Yorker

"Peters is ... the father of the post-modern corporation." -- Los Angeles Times

Tom Peters describes himself as a prince of disorder, champion of bold failures, maestro of zest, professional loudmouth (as a speaker he’s "a spitter," according to the cartoon strip Dilbert), corporate cheerleader, lover of markets, capitalist pig … and card-carrying member of the ACLU.

Fortune calls him the "Ur-guru" (guru of gurus) of management. The Economist says he’s the "Uber-guru." And his unconventional views led Business Week to describe him as business’ "best friend and worst nightmare."

Tom followed up on the phenomenal success of In Search of Excellence (1982, with Robert H. Waterman, Jr. .. recently named one of the "Top Three Business Books of the Century") with four more best-selling hardback books: A Passion for Excellence (1985, with Nancy Austin), Thriving on Chaos (1987), Liberation Management (1992, and recently acclaimed as the "Management Book of the Decade" for the ’90s), The Circle of Innovation: You Can’t Shrink Your Way to Greatness (1997); and a pair of bestselling paperback originals, The Tom Peters Seminar: Crazy Times Call for Crazy Organizations (1993) and The Pursuit of WOW!: Every Person’s Guide to Topsy-Turvy Times (1994). The first three of Tom’s new series of books on Re-inventing Work were released in September 1999: The Brand You50: Fifty to Transform Yourself from an "Employee" into a Brand that Shouts Distinction and Passion!, The Project50: Fifty Ways to Transform Every "Task" into a Project that Matters!, and The Professional Service Firm50: Fifty Ways to Transform Your "Department" into a Professional Service Firm Whose Trademarks Are Passion and Innovation!

Tom presents about 85 major seminars each year, and has recently spoken in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Turkey, India, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Ecuador, Argentina, Chile and Brazil. Tom is a graduate of Cornell (B.C.E., M.C.E.) and Stanford (M.B.A., Ph.D.). He served on active duty in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam (a Navy Seabee) and Washington from 1966 to 1970, was a senior White House drug abuse advisor in 1973-74 and worked at McKinsey & Co. from 1974 to 1981, becoming a partner in 1977. Tom is also founder and chairman of tompeterscompany!, a global training and consulting company bringing 21st century solutions to organizations throughout the world. tompeterscompany! turns Tom’s ideas into action in the business world. Its diverse clientele spans multiple industries and many continents. tompeterscompany!’s vision is to invent the new world of work, and they’ve recently introduced three new solutions based on Tom’s latest best-selling book series on reinventing work.

Among other things, Tom is a Fellow of the International Academy of Management, The World Productivity Association, the International Customer Service Association and the Society for Quality and Participation. He divides his time between Silicon Valley (Palo Alto) and Vermont, where he and his wife Susan Sargent (and Max and Ben) co-habit a 1,300 acre working farm in Tinmouth ... along with alpacas, chickens, goats, dogs (Hummer and Rosie and Lego -- they all sleep on the bed), horses, barn cats, sheep and geese.
